January 2010 - Special Message
Thank you for being in touch with us. It may seem we are closing the door on you with our submissions closed sign – but hopefully you will see we’ve opened three windows (windows of opportunity) instead.
As a commercial publisher (trade publisher) we select 8-12 children’s spiritual book titles per year under our imprint ‘Pick-a-WooWoo’. We would dearly love to say ‘YES’ to the many other wonderful titles that come to our attention every year.
However, due to an overwhelming response to our ‘Internet submissions page’, we have been inundated with manuscripts and therefore have selected children’s spiritual book titles now for 2010 and some for 2011. Our submissions panel are still working through the manuscripts at hand and have requested that we CLOSE our submissions page until later in the year (for books to be published in 2011/2012).
Don't stop here - have faith and move forward. It is our quest to do anything in our power to assist you in your dream (where possible), to get your children’s spiritual book into the market place, no matter what path you should decide to follow.
Here are some options for you!
You can ‘joint publish’ with us; seek another commercial publisher; or self publish.
-
A joint publishing agreement is also known as subsidy publishing. It means we distribute books under our own imprint (Pick-a-WooWoo). It asks authors to pay for the cost of publication. As with commercial publishers, the books are owned by the publisher and remain in the publisher's possession; authors receive higher royalties however (40-45%) to cover initial investment. You get the added benefits of an established and professional publisher with a network of support and industry experience. Please click on Joint Publishing / Book Management Plan for further information. Please note: only 2 titles per year are selected via this method.

A commercial publisher (or trade publisher) distributes books under its own imprint. It purchases manuscripts from authors, and handles the cost of producing those manuscripts: Cover and interior design, typesetting, printing, marketing, distribution, etc. The author is not expected to pay any of these costs. The books are owned by the publisher and remain in the publisher's possession until sold; the author receives a portion of sales in the form of royalties, usually around 10%. We are happy to supply you with a listing of other children’s publishers if you choose this route. Please go to our contact page and email us.
- A self-publisher is an author who pays for the cost of designing, printing, and distributing his or her book. Frequently, the author invents and registers a publishing "imprint." Self-published books are the property of the author and usually remain in the author's possession; all sales proceeds belong to the author as does the responsibility for book creation, printing, design, storage, fulfillment of orders, marketing, advertising, editorials etc etc. We suggest that you visit Children's writer websites for more information on self publishing such as Jacket Flap; Childrens Writer; The Purple Crayon; to mention just a few.
We know you've got a great spiritual story for children and we know you've invested considerable amount of time on research and writing your manuscript. Please consider, if you are able, our 'Joint Publishing' program where we share the expenses and profits. The program will guide you through an easy process of getting your book printed, marketed and sold all under our strong brand recognition of ‘Pick-A-Woo Woo’ which is synonymous with ‘children’s spiritual book titles’ worldwide. We will be also launching our E-Books soon and this may be another option for you. Please email us for further information.
Which ever way you journey with your book, we wish you an abundance of Joy, Love & Light.
