Athie Chambers (Freelance Editor)

Athie has been a journalist most of her working adult life but has dabbled in the last 12 years in the glass art industry and is currently bringing a long held vision of her own gallery and workshop to life on her rural property.
There, in South Western Australia, she lives with her husband, two children, elderly mum and a growing flock of farm and domestic pets.
Having a huge respect for the written word (come by honestly as a result of growing up with renowned Australian author and journalist Athol Thomas as her mentor – and Dad), Athie has a sometimes-annoying desire to edit most things she reads. So, falling into an editorial role with Pick-a-Woo-Woo Publishers came easily to her! Her writing career began on The West Australian newspaper in Perth and included writing news stories of national and international interest for five national newspapers based in Sydney. Extensive world travel followed her Down Under newspaper career, with freelance writing her major income until she married and settled in Canada.
After returning to Western Australia in 1995, Athie continued to freelance for many different organizations whilst pursuing a growing passion for the community in which she lived. This passion led to a Citizen of the Year award in 2004 for Athie’s “positive, committed, enthusiastic leadership in her community” by establishing a community newspaper – run by volunteers to this day. A move to the country in 2004 coincided with the expansion of her glass art interests and she is looking forward to opening her new showroom, Kismet Gallery, next year (2009). Athie can be contacted through Pick-a-Woo Woo Publishers.
